Soul music is a popular music genre from the USA that became popular there in the 1950s.
Catchy rhythms are an important feature of soul music, as well as typical "question-and-answer games" between the soloist / performer and usually the choir. Soul music is conceived as danceable music and has its roots in the traditional Afro-American Gospel music, Rhythm&Blues and the hybridization of their respective religious and secular views.
